Are you interested in looking at display homes in person before you purchase them? Good thinking. A brochure can’t tell you absolutely everything about the home design. It’s much better to see it in person. Avoid these costly mistakes when trying to build your own home:
See the Home

If you’re buying a display home, If at all possible, ask to see the home. If the salesperson says that you can’t see it for some reason, chances are that you’re the first person to buy the plan. This isn’t always a bad thing but requires more careful consideration as you’ll be making a bit of a blind decision. It’s wise to ask to see a wax overlay 1-100 scale dimension of the plan. This helps you customise as well as see exactly what you’re getting. If you’re walking through a home that’s under construction, it’s still advisable to see the wax overlay as a home under construction can be difficult to analyse.
Watch Out for Similar Display Homes
Sometimes, you’ll see display homes that you like but that are outside of your budget. When this happens, a salesperson is likely going to try to sell you a similar plan. Do be cautious about signing up for a similar plan unless you get a chance to see it. Again, ask to see a house that’s already done. If that’s not possible, look carefully at the plans to see what the differences are. You don’t want to envision the display model you walked through and buy something that’s very different. Again, a 1-100 scale dimension is going to be helpful as is a careful review of the plans and any documentation.
